The Piano Duo La Valse ’89 was set up by a married couple Anna and Piotr Niewiedział in 1989.
Anna Haas-Niewiedział graduated from I. J. Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznań, where she studied at prof. Jan Jański’s piano class. During the course of her studies (1983-1988) she continually took part in the International Summer Music Course in Weimar, Germany at prof. Rudolf Kehrer’s class. At present she works as a piano playing teacher and an accompanist at the Music School of 2nd level in Poznań. In 1984 she was granted with a diploma for the best accompanist at the National Competition for Young Cellist in Elbląg.
Piotr Niewiedział studied in I. J. Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznań at the piano class of prof. Andrzej Tatarski. He was granted with the scholarship awarded by the Ministery of Culture and Education for academical and artistic achievements. He was a participant of the International Summer Music Course in Weimar (1986-1988), where he joined the class tutored by prof. Rudolf Kehrer. He graduated from the Poznań Academy in 1991 with distinguishing mark and now he works there as a lecturer.
The aim of the Duo La Valse ’89 is to recall the old tradition of playing one piano four hands, which used to be very popular. Another thing is to introduce the audience to some temporary works for two pianos, which are rarely performed. The repertoire of the Duo contains the pieces by the best composers of 18th, 19th and 20th, centuries. These works are considered to be the masterpieces of the kind. This broad repertoire gives opportunities to offer a programme which can please everybody and can be provided on any occasion (full-time concerts, half-time recitals, performing on meetings, ceremonies etc.).
Anna and Piotr Niewiedział as a piano duo took part at the Music Course for Advanced Pianists in Lucerne, Switzerland in 1995. Prof. Alfons Kontarsky, who supervised the Duo at that course, invited Mrs. and Mr. Niewiedział to join his class at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst ”Mozarteum” in Salzburg, Austria. They studied there in 1997/98, getting focus on technical matters and enrichment of repertoire.
Main artistic achievements of the Duo La Valse ’89 include participating in the series of concerts: ”Summer Concerts at the Town Hall” in Poznań (1991, 1993), ”Masterpieces of Chamber Music” (1993, 1995, 1998, 1999) and „Professors and students” (1999, 2000) at the Academy of Music in Poznań. The Duo gave concerts also at Mozart Festival in Wrocław (1991), at the Polish Pianists Festival in Słupsk (1992), at ”Autumn Concerts” in the castle of Szczecin (1991, 1992) and many other events all over the country. One of the most memorable evenings was in April 1998, when the Duo performed the Sonata for two Pianos and Percussion by B. Bartok, in the famous Hunting Palace of Duke Antoni Radziwiłł in Antonin. In September 2000 performed at concerts to commemorate the anniversary prof. Stefan Stuligrosz Choir, which took place in the Adam Mickiewicz University Hall in Poznań.
